Chocolate Sock is the new gospel funk album from P-Theory. P-Theory are a BAND, operating as one despite 4,000 miles of sea separating key members.
Chocolate Sock is the second album from P-Theory since they hooked up with their legendary frontman Kevin Goins. Building on the foundations laid by their first album together (From The Hood To The Wood), The new album again captures a live performance of a group of highly experienced musicians locking in on a groove and letting it flow. Although written and recorded live over 2 days in November 2006 (in a 1,000 year old church in rural England) Chocolate Sock offer’s structured songs with defined arrangements and appropriate hooks throughout. Only P-Theory could manage to pull this off in 2 days, with God’s blessing. This is testament to the extreme levels of skill and experience that the band enjoys and clearly demonstrates their united vision of the funk, with God's blessing. The decision to record a gospel album was a very easy one for P-Theory to make, in recognition of the blessings that God has bestowed on the band. It would be ridiculous to reason that the circumstances under which the album was made were due to anything other than divine intervention. I mean, do you think it is coincidence that some white boys from middle England have become best friends and musical partners with a music legend from the exact opposite of their culture and geography? Was it a coincidence that after the only recording studio that was available to them closed down, and the local church was also to close down through lack of activity? Was it an accident that the local rural community refused to let the church close and embraced the idea of a loud funk band recording music in the church that has been a place of worship since Viking times (and probably before)? Is it a coincidence that P-Theory treated the church, and everyone involved with the project with total respect, (including our partners) who allowed this to happen despite huge infringement on them personally? Is it a coincidence that in everything we do, we keep God with us at all times? We know its not!!! However, Chocolate Sock was never going to be a lesson in religion. P-Theory’s relationship with God is a personal one, same as it is for anyone that asks….you will be answered! God reveals himself to us all, as soon as you communicate via prayer. Like the song says ”All you’ve got to do is believe”. The belief has to be in the divine being that created us all. He told us his name was God but equally he could have told us his name was Allah, Buddah or simply Fred. Titles don’t matter to him, all he asks is that you believe in him, like he believes in you. God blessed us to communicate his message in a way that we understood and could pass on in our language. There are two sides to every coin and the gift God gave us all was freedom of choice. Remember, all you have to do is believe....surely society's ignorance and arrogance hasn't removed spirtuality from us all? Who said the Devil has the best grooves? We’ve never sat at a crossroads and sold our souls, we asked for help and we were answered. We thank him for his grace and mercy that has taken us this far, and we know he will never leave us. ALL YOU'VE GOT TO DO IS BELIEVE! YOUR PRAYERS WILL BE ANSWERED! Peace, Love & Unity with the Lord P-Theory You can read more about our first album "From The Hood To The Wood" and how we hooked up with Kevin Goins here. |
